Adult Children/Parents

The term "Adult Children" comes from the organization Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families. They are a 12-Step program. To me, an Adult Child is anyone who grew up in dysfunctional environment (home, school, church) and experienced trauma. Your parent did not have to be some kind of addict.

I have compiled and edited a lot of articles about Adult Children and put them on this website. This site also provides information for parents who want to learn more about healthy parenting.

For addicts, these are what I call underlying issues. They need to be addressed if we are to develop in our recovery

Parents

Parents in recovery are always struggling to find answers to important questions. We constantly have to ask ourselves: What are healthy boundaries? Do these boundaries change as my children get older? At any given moment, am I helping them or controlling them? Where do my needs leave off and their needs begin? Am I loving them “too much” or not enough? How do I love my children without letting them abuse me? How do I avoid letting my shortcomings get in the way of healthy parenting? This website was created to answer questions like this. Welcome.
